1st Lake County gun show since summit draws crowd

Posted: Updated:

CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) -- Recent criticism of a Lake County gun show didn't hurt attendance. It may have helped it instead.

The show this weekend drew more than a thousand gun enthusiasts to the Lake County Fairgrounds Industrial Arts Building in Crown Point.

Show organizer Dan Hedger of Central Indiana Gunshows says news coverage of the gun show criticism appeared to have boosted crowds.

Lake County Sheriff John Buncich asked the county commissioners last month to restrict private gun sales at the shows, but the commissioners refused.

Commissioner Gerry Scheub told The Times of Munster for a story Sunday that there's no law enforcement problem with the shows.

Scheub says the county will honor its contract with Central Indiana Gunshows to hold six shows this year.
