A Metro Corrections spokeswoman says Mahmoud Hindi was having a "behavior problem" with an officer on Saturday night in his cell, before a scuffle.
She says Hindi remains hospitalized with injuries this morning.
On Monday morning, the following statement was released by Metro Corrections:
"Shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday night, inmate Mahmoud Hindi was involved in an altercation with two Louisville Metro Corrections Officers. One officer was injured but did not receive treatment. At the time, Mr. Hindi was checked by the medical staff and treated. Early Sunday morning Mr. Hindi was reassessed by the medical staff after complaining of being in pain. A few hours later, Mr. Hindi was moved to an undisclosed medical facility for treatment. He remains at that facility and the date of his return to LMDC is unknown at this time. An internal investigation is being conducted."
Hindi, a former doctor, was having property disputes with his homeowners association. Police say he went to the homeowner's association meeting inside a church in September and fatally shot two association members.
