Thundernator will be chosen by KY Lottery

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Derby Festival has enlisted the Kentucky Lottery to help choose this year's Thundernator for the 2013 Derby Festival Opening Ceremonies: Thunder Over Louisville. 

As part of a second chance promotion, players will be able to register for a chance to be this year's Thundernator – who will provide the Thunder countdown and "zero" ignition to activate the Thunder launch system sequence in the Command Center at the Galt House Hotel on Saturday, April 20.

"For years, we've partnered with the KDF to offer winners of a second-chance promotion front-row seats to Thunder from a special vantage point. Now, we're definitely kicking it up a notch by allowing one lucky winner to start the night's fireworks." Said Chip Poltson, Vice President of Communications, Government and Public Relations Kentucky Lottery Corporation. "By entering $2 non-winning tickets via our new Fun Club Rewards program, players will be eligible for what will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

To enter the promotion, players must sign-in or register for a Fun Club Rewards account at www.kylottery.com.  Once logged in, a player will be able to submit an eligible current non-winning $2 Scratch-off ticket to enter for a chance to be the 2013 Thundernator.

("Current" $2 Scratch-off games are defined as those for which the last date to claim have not expired.) All entries must be received by 11:59 P.M. E.S.T. on April 1, 2013.  

The drawing for Thundernator will take place on April 3. Their V.I.P. Experience package includes:  an invitation to the Festival's annual They're Off! Luncheon on Friday, April 19; a Second Street Bridge and Command Center Tour also on Friday, April 19; Overnight accommodations for a family of 4 at the Galt House Thunder weekend; and a front row seat in the Command Center on Saturday, April 20, to flip the switch.

"The Kentucky Lottery is a longtime partner of the Festival and we're excited to get their help in choosing this year's Thundernator.," said Mike Berry, Kentucky Derby Festival President and CEO."  "Being the Thundernator is an important role to fill and now more people than ever will have a chance to be the one who flips the switch.  We know somebody's gotta win!"

Thunder Over Louisville - the Derby Festival's Opening Ceremonies - is one of nearly 70 events produced by the Derby Festival in the spring. The 2013 Thunder Over Louisville, themed "Thunder Vision," is set for Saturday, April 20, and will be the  will be the 24th annual production. The show is sponsored by Horseshoe Southern Indiana, KentuckyOne Health, LG&E, Meijer and UPS.
