Valley High student pleads not guilty to gun charge

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Valley High School student arrested Wednesday after police say they found a gun in his locker has pleaded not guilty.

Twenty-year-old Sterling Williams is charged with unlawful possession of a handgun on school property.

His attorney asked the judge to release him on his own recognizance, saying he had no prior record. But the judge set bond at $5,000. That means Williams can be released if he comes up with 10 percent of that amount.

JCPS officials say they sent a letter home to parents after the incident explaining that the gun was found during a routine check of lockers.
