LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A woman was taken to University Hospital in critical condition Wednesday afternoon after police say her husband stabbed her multiple times, leaving the knife in her neck.

According to an arrest report, 31-year-old Haris Sefo punched his wife several times in the face and neck during an argument.

Police say Sefo then grabbed a knife from the kitchen counter and stabbed his wife numerous times "in the torso, back and arms, causing serious physical injury."

At one point, police say Sefo lost control of the knife and his hand was cut, but he quickly regained control.

That's when he allegedly "jammed it all the way through her neck from her left side neck across."

Police say he then "left the knife in her neck and called his family to help him."

The woman was taken to University Hospital and -- as of Wednesday -- was in critical condition.

Sefo was arrested and charged with first degree assault.
