TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) -- A judge has scheduled an Aug. 5 trial for five people in connection with the slaying of a Terre Haute police officer nearly two years ago.
The five defendants already have received federal prison sentences in connection with the July 2011 shooting of Officer Brett Long but still face state charges of resisting law enforcement, visiting a common nuisance and other crimes.
The Tribune-Star reports Monroe Superior Court Judge Marc Kellams will preside over the trial in Bloomington in a change of venue but traveled to Terre Haute on Friday to set court dates in the case.
Long was shot inside a Terre Haute home when a fugitive task force served a warrant on a suspect who shot Long and his K-9 partner Shadow before fatally shooting himself.
