Posted: Updated:

CORYDON, Ind. (AP) -- A southern Indiana school corporation is joining the ranks of districts assigning off-duty police officers to its school campuses.

According to media reports, one uniformed officer from either Corydon police or the Harrison County Sheriff's Department was scheduled to be posted starting Monday at the Corydon-based South Harrison schools' South Central campus.

The district is also assigning one officer to split time between Heth-Washington and New Middletown elementary schools, while two officers will rotate among the schools on the Corydon campus.

Superintendent Neyland Clark says the pilot program will cost about $25,000 through the end of this school year.
