LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- UPDATE: Police have identified the man found shot in the chest Monday as 48-year-old Steven Balwin. Officials were planning on holding a news conference today with more information, but now say they will update the media through an email while detectives focus on the investigation.
The discovery of a body inside a home on Plum Woods Drive in Sellersburg, Ind., is now being investigated as a homicide. Maj. Darrell Rayborn, Chief of Detectives with Clarksville Police, when asked if a killer was still on the loose, said people in the area "need to be aware of their surroundings."
Police say Balwin was found dead by a male relative about noon. Both men lived at the home, police said. They believe the crime occurred between 9:45 a.m. and 11:57 a.m., the latter time when officers received a call to respond to the scene. Monday evening, Rayborn said police had found no weapon at the scene. Police have not made an arrest and do not have any suspects. Detectives still have not found a murder weapon.
An autopsy is expected to be performed in Louisville on Tuesday.
Few neighbors wanted to talk about the activity in the upscale and quiet neighborhood, which has a Sellersburg address but is in the town limits of Clarksville.
However, Sheryl Bowyer, who lives across the street from the home, said, "It is unnerving and something I will think about for awhile. ... I feel like this stuff can happen anywhere, and I'm just not really concerned, and we'll just have to wait and see."
