Workers at base in Fort Wayne receive notices

Posted: Updated:

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) -- A spokesman for an Air National Guard unit based in Fort Wayne says some of the about 200 workers facing possible furlough as part of the federal spending cuts have begun receiving official notice.

Master Sgt. Darin Hubble tells The News-Sentinel that some of the civilian technicians received letters Friday notifying them of the 22-week furlough plan. Hubble says Indiana Air Guard leaders where the 122nd Fighter Wing is based are still working to try to avoid the cuts that would shorten the work week to four days for the full-time workers.

He says the proposed cuts also would mean some temporary workers at the base would lose their jobs.
