2 Ky. sites named as national landmarks

Posted: Updated:

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Two historic sites in central Kentucky have been added to a list of national landmarks.

The Camp Nelson Historical and Archaeological District in Jessamine County and the George T. Stagg Distillery in Franklin County received the designations this month.

Stephen McBride, director of interpretation and archaeology at Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park called the designation an honor and said it might help with preservation efforts.

According to federal officials, the Stagg distillery dates from about 1880, is a "rare, intact example of an operating distillery before, during and after Prohibition."
