Indiana courthouse works to increase security

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Security is being increased at this historic southern Indiana courthouse.

The County Council in Madison just approved the purchase of a metal detector and two wand metal detectors for the courthouse that dates back to the 1850's. In addition to that, hiring a security officer for the building was also approved.

The courthouse was heavily damaged by a fire in 2009. But after extensive repairs, it reopened in 2011.

Leaders say the courthouse needs the extra security because of incidents over the years.
