LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Kentucky U.S. Senator Rand Paul says illegal immigrants should be allowed to become taxpayers and eventually have a chance to become U.S. citizens.
Paul made those comments while speaking to the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, adding, "Prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into becoming and being taxpaying members of society."
It's an idea that is still meeting with resistance from some conservatives who call providing citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants amnesty.
Paul emphasized that greater border security must be established before he would accept such an approach.
