LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Seven U-S marines are dead, after a training exercise in Nevada.

It happened after a mortar exploded during a training accident last night at Hawthorne Army depot.

A military official says a 60 millimeter round detonated inside a mortar tube.

The blast hit the marine corps mortar crew and surrounding personnel.

Eight marines were injured.

The Marines were from the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

The depot is used for storing ammunition and weapon stocks set to be deactivated.
