Vacant land set to be Shelby County outlet mall

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A new outlet mall is now on the way for Shelby County.

The project in Simpsonville just got final approval from zoning. The plan for the 40 acres of vacant land is to build an 87 store retail outlet mall with stores like Tommy Hillfiger, Nike and Gap.

Officials are hoping it will bring more economic development to the area, including restaurants, shops, and jobs.

Even with the possibility of economic development, there has been some opposition to the project.

Construction to break ground on building the new outlet mall in Shelby County could start as soon as next month. The developer hopes to have it open by August 2014.
