FRANKFORT, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear has signed a bill giving a state panel more access to case files involving children who died or suffered serious injuries.
"We all share the same goal of keeping our youngest citizens safe from harm, but sometimes abuse and neglect lead to tragic circumstances," said Gov. Beshear in a news release. "When that happens, we must take a hard look to see whether and how what we call ‘the system' broke down."
The law also lets panel members discuss certain cases in private to protect victims' identities.
The panel must make recommendations to social services agencies on improving investigations of abuse.
