LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say a burglar wanna-be made a big mistake when he lost his wallet at the scene of the crime.
According to an arrest warrant, 29-year-old Justin Matthew Smith tried to break into a woman's home on Tuesday. Police say he kicked the rear door of the house several times and tried to pry it open -- all to no avail.
He also allegedly got into the woman's car and took the vehicle registration.
At some point during these activities, Smith lost his wallet, police say.
Unable to get inside the home, Smith finally left.
When the victim arrived home, she discovered that her door was damaged and called Louisville Metro Police. Police responded and found Smith's wallet at the scene.
Police say Smith was later arrested after breaking into another home on Balance Lane, just east of the interchange between New Cut Road and the Gene Snyder Freeway. Officers say he left the original victim's vehicle registration at that scene.
Smith has been charged with attempted burglary in connection with the original case, according to an arrest warrant.
