Venting online can backfire

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Venting online may be backfiring. There's new evidence it could actually make you more angry.

One study found visitors to common rant websites reported feeling more relaxed right after posting a comment, but they tend to experience more overall anger.

Another study found that both reading other people's rants and writing your own are associated with negative mood shifts.

Researchers at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay say the Internet brings out "impulsivity" problems and it's too easy to respond when you're most angry.
