LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville mother is facing felony charges after police say she left her children alone in deplorable conditions.
It happened Friday evening at 5 p.m. at an apartment on S. Jackson St., near E. Kentucky St.
Police say they got a report of several children left alone. When officers arrived at the apartment, they found a man who was the brother of the woman who lived there. Police say he told them that when he arrived, he found the door of the apartment ajar, and two children inside by themselves.
When officers entered the apartment, they allegedly found a pair of 2-year-old twins left alone in their crib.
"Both children had soiled diapers, were covered in dirt and were wearing dirty clothing," police say.
A short time after police found the twins, a 5-year-old arrived home from school, according to the arrest report.
Police contacted Child Protective Services. The children's mother, 27-year-old Precious D. Petty, showed up at the house about an hour after police arrived, according to the arrest report.
Family members told police the children had been alone roughly 45 minutes before Petty's brother and the police officers arrived.
All children were taken to the Home of the Innocents, according to police. Petty was charged with abandonment of a minor and endangering the welfare of a minor.
