LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- It is a store with its own simulated wildlife mountain.
The ribbon is about to be cut on the first Cabela's in Kentucky located in the Old Brownsboro Crossing just off Kentucky Highway 22 in Eastern Jefferson County.
With an indoor waterfall running down the indoor mountain full of museum quality displays of wildlife, Cabela's stores truly bring the outdoors inside. "We offer a unique retail experience with the mountain replica, the built in aquarium and wildlife displays," says Cabela's spokesman Wes Remmer.
A one-hour tour of the store is hardly enough time to take in all that is in the store. There are tents, outdoor clothes, shoes, bow and arrows, and plenty of firearms which are big sellers these days.
"Our gun library is really a popular part of the store," says Remmer, "it is like a mini-museum, we have antique and collectible firearms dating back a hundred years or so."
One item that caught our eye was the robotic turkey. It is used by employee Greg Dodge to teach people to hunt for turkeys.
Dodge is one of the more than 200 workers recently hired for the new store. He is retired from the army, lives in Meade County and is really looking forward to a job that relates to his passion for hunting. "I interviewed for the job at Cabela's because hunting is a passion of mine and this job is a great fit," he says.
In addition to the millions of merchandise for sale at the store, it will offer lots of seminars and classes taught by experts like Dodge.
The store will open on 11 am on Thursday April 11.
"There is still a little product to be put on the shelves, but we are mostly ready to go," says Remmer.
Still missing are the boats that will be sold at the store. They are due to come in any day now. When the store opens next month, fittingly the ribbon will be cut with a bow and arrow.
