CRAWFORD BLOG | NCAA told security to keep "Worldwide Wes" out of media/team areas

INDIANAPOLIS (WDRB) -- William "Worldwide Wes" Wesley has long been a polarizing figure in college sports, and a shadowy one.

But before tonight's Midwest Regional semifinals at Lucas Oil Stadium, his face was all over the place. Security officials were handed pictures of Wesley and told that he is not to be allowed in restricted areas. (Click on the image above to see the photo.)

Originally, Dan Wolken of USA Today, who broke the story, was told that Wesley wasn't allowed in the building. An NCAA official clarified the position, saying he's allowed in the stands, but not in behind-the-scenes areas without a credential.

Wesley was a locker room mainstay of UK's past two NCAA Tournament runs, though he sat in the stands behind the bench.

The NCAA offered no other comment.

Pat Forde of Yahoo! Sports spoke with Wesley in side Lucas Oil Stadium, but Wesley said he did not want to be quoted.
