Number of crossover crashes drop on Indiana interstates

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Severe crossover crashes on Indiana interstates have drastically dropped due to cable barriers installed on the highway.

Indiana transportation officials say the state has seen an 80% drop in the dangerous crashes where the barriers have been installed.

Since 2005 about 340 miles of cable barriers have been installed in Indiana.

The cable barriers along the interstate have been so successful the state plans to add 11 more miles of cables along Interstate 65 in northern Indiana.

Bids for the project are expected to open next summer.
