LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Metro Council woman Barbara Shanklin is fighting to clear her name.

Monday afternoon her attorney filed an appeal to the ethic complaint against her.

The ethics commission found Shanklin had several violations including using her position to obtain money for a neighborhood group, benefiting from a taxpayer upholstery program and hiring her grandson.

Shanklin's attorney claims she was denied due process.

"They found that my client had enjoyed unwarranted privileges, but there is no discussion, no definition of unwarranted privileges as you would get if you had a jury deciding a case," explained Shanklin's attorney Aubrey Williams.

Metro Council members have formed a charging committee to begin the process to remove Shanklin from office.
