LOUISIVLLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two 16-year-old fisherman in Kentucky had to be rescued after they got trapped in a raging river.
Emergency officials say the fishermen's boat engine failed, causing them to become stuck on rocks by the rapids.
First rescuers sent someone out on foot, but the strong current swept him off his feet.
Nearly an hour later, rescuers placed a boat in the water and were eventually able to get close enough to get the stranded boaters on board.
"The waters that are around Bowling Green are just multi-faceted. You never know what you're going to run into when you get into the water. And in this particular case around the rapids, it's pretty tedious. We have certain sections around this part of the river that have eddies and things like that are really hard to navigate," Deborah William of Warren County, Ky Rescue Dept. said.
The firefighter swept away by the current suffered a sprained ankle.
