LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- When the University of Louisville men's basketball team plays in the Final Four, Louisville Metro Police will be ready for action to keep the celebrations from getting out of hand.
Emergency responders say they know crowds will celebrate, they just want people to do it responsibly -- so police will target three areas on Saturday night and Monday night if the Cards make it to the championship game:
Those include U of L's campus, West Broadway and the Highlands along Baxter Avenue and Bardstown Road.
In most places, they don't plan to shut down traffic, but they could change that plan if public safety is at risk. There will be some parking restrictions in place on campus and along West Broadway Saturday night. Police say they will shut down Cardinal Boulevard between 3rd and 4th Streets Saturday night and Monday night as necessary.
They plan to keep Shawnee and Chickasaw Parks open all weekend unless there are problems.
The sheriff's office, the Louisville fire department and Metro Corrections are among the many agencies prepared for any post-game celebrations that get out of hand.
They will all be talking about specifics of the plan later this afternoon.
