LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If the University of Louisville Cardinals beat the Wichita State Shockers on Saturday, Congressman John Yarmuth will win steakburgers from Wichita Congressman Mike Pompeo.
If the Cards lose, Yarmuth will have to fork over a bottle of Woodford Reserve and a bucket of chicken from KFC.
Congressman Mike Pompeo and John Yarmuth announced the friendly wager in a press release on Friday.
Eternal bragging rights are also at stake.
"We're excited to stand behind the Wichita State Shockers, the best team in Kansas this season, as they play the Cardinals," Pompeo said. "And we're doubling down on our bet by offering Wichita-based Freddy's Steakburgers, which have finally reached the East Coast at their new nearby location in Virginia. Let the games begin!"
"The Cards have overwhelmed their opponents with speed and defensive intensity all season, and they're not going to let up now," Yarmuth said. "Plus Kevin Ware's strength and perseverance have inspired his teammates to play at another level entirely. I'm certainly betting on a strong performance against Wichita State and a big Cards win."
Congressmen Pompeo and Yarmuth may disagree on the better team, but they share a mutual admiration for the student-athletes, coaches and fans of each school and their accomplishments this season.
