Indiana junior Victor Oladipo said he will announce his decision on the NBA this week.
ATLANTA (WDRB) -- Victor Oladipo expected to travel to Atlanta with his Indiana University basketball teammates for the NCAA Final Four. That's not the way it worked out after the Hoosiers were beaten by Syracuse in the East Regional semifinals.
But Oladipo still earned a trip to town because the National Association of Basketball Coaches named Oladipo and Kansas center Jeff Withey as co-winners of their national Defensive Player of the Year award
Oladipo said he planned to announce his plans for next season this week. He said he also expected a decision from teammate IU center Cody Zeller this week.
"Everything happens for a reason," Oladipo said. "We wanted to be playing here, but that wasn't part of God's plan. It was disappointing to lose, but we deal with it a little better every day. We still had a great season, did a lot of great things, won the Big Ten title."
The NCAA deadline to withdraw from the draft is April 16, but the NBA does not require players to declare until April 28.
Both players are projected as Top 10 picks for the 2013 NBA Draft by numerous scouting services. Indiana coach Tom Crean has helped them submit their paperwork with the NBA's undergraduate advisory committee.
Most observers consider Oladipo, a junior, a lock to leave IU. He will finish his undergraduate degree work in May. Zeller is also expected to join his older brothers Tyler and Luke in the NBA, but some scouts have said Zeller could benefit from another season of college basketball.
