LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police say after around 30 arrests last night for things like disorderly conduct, menacing, wanton endangerment and possessing and firing weapons, they just want people to be safe, and that there's no need to bring a gun to the party.
"That is very, very dangerous for everyone involved," said Lt. Col. Kenton Buckner. "Anytime you are firing weapons -- I know that people think that's kind of an innocent thing to do, but it's the same thing when we give our warning for the New Year's celebration: the bullets come down at some point. There are a number of people who are killed every year from that type of event."
They say the most heavily affected areas last night were on U of L's campus and around Broadway. Tonight they plan on having around 120 officers, and they say they want to see celebrating and not rioting after a few officers were hurt when they were hit with bottles.
The excitement is high and fans say they are ready to hang another championship banner in the Yum! Center for the Lady Cards.
