LOUISVILLE, KY (WDRB) -- It is billed as Louisville's first gourmet Bustaurant.
So what is a Bustaurant? "You take a bus, you gut it, and you make it into a restaurant," says Troy King, who with two partners is in the process of creating a bustaurant.
Food trucks are a growing industry in Louisville. Last summer Louisville Mayor Fischer's administration helped to promote the industry with its Food Truck Tuesdays staged in front of Metro Hall.
"Right now Louisville is in its infancy as far as street food is concerned," says King, "so I thought it was a good time to get into the business, I want to change how we dine."
King has been cooking since he was 16, so food is his passion. He plans to call the bustaurant The Rolling Gourmet.
"I want to give customers the option of getting their food and going on like other food trucks do," he explains," or then walking up and getting their food and sitting in our bus, like other food trucks do not do."
King plans to transform the back of a TARC bus into a kitchen with the front serving as the dining area. "It is going to be very nice with a big screen TV, leather seating, a lounge type area, to try to make it as comfortable as possible.
King is promising a diverse menu gourmet style, with fancy hot dogs, burgers, tacos, and salads.
One day a month the business will help local charities. "We have a program called Buy a Meal, Give a Meal, where for every meal we sell during lunch, we are going to give a meal away to a reputable charitable organization," says King.
Right now he and his partners are in the process of trying to raise $25,000 through Kickstarter. They have until May 5th to raise the money.
If all goes well the Rolling Gourmet could be rolling down the highway later this summer.
