President Obama speaks on terror bombings

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- President Obama says the FBI is investigating Monday's Boston Marathon explosions as an act of terrorism.  But he says what is still unknown is whether those explosions were the work of an individual or an organized group.  The president vowed, "We will find whoever harmed our citizens and we will bring them to justice."

He also cited people who stayed around after the explosion to treat the wounded immediately after the explosion, some of them tearing off their own clothing to create tourniquets, and competitors who kept running to go to hospitals to give blood.  He also praised the doctors and ministers who are still caring for the injured.

"So if you want to know who we are," the president said, "what America is, how we respond to evil, that's it -- selflessly, compassionately, unafraid."

President Obama said "appropriate security measures" would be taken to protect the American people, and he said everyone has a part to play if they see something suspicious:  "Speak up," the president urged citizens.
