CompuCom Systems to add 200 Louisville positions

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- It is the kind of high paying jobs economic development leaders like to announce -- jobs that pay well.

CompuCom currently has 150 workers at its tech center located on Lynn Station Road in Eastern Jefferson County. But the high-tech company is planning to more than double that number by next year.

The Texas-based company has operated its tech center in Louisville since 2008.

CompuCom provides information technology services to companies around the globe.

This year it has plans to add one hundred new jobs at the Louisville operation and then another hundred jobs in 2014.

"We've been here for some time now," says Tony Doye, the divisional CEO of CompuCom, "and we have been very pleased with the level of skills and the access to skills we have in this area."

These new jobs are the kind the city likes to attract.  "I love these jobs," says Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, "because they are highly skilled jobs, they are well paying jobs, they are technical jobs."  Job growth is underway in the region.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, 18,000 new jobs have been added during the past year in the Metro Louisville area, a 2.9 % increase.

The demand for information technology services is on the upswing again following the recession.  "We are seeing companies spending a little more on capital expenditures," says Doye, "and on IT services so that bodes well for the future I think."

Attracting good jobs is very competitive among cities and it keeps economic development leaders on the go.  "We are going abroad, we are making pitches to businesses," says the chief executive officer of Greater Louisville, Inc., the regional chamber of commerce. "We are doing a very focused targeted industry approach to make sure we are capturing the type of companies that have the ability to expand and relocate to the Louisville area."
