E. Ind. mayor suspends fire chief over fight

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) -- Richmond's mayor has suspended the eastern Indiana city's fire chief for one week after he was charged with disorderly conduct for an altercation in a nearby town.

Mayor Sally Hutton said after suspending Richmond Fire Department Chief Mike Crawley on Friday that she expects to take no further action against Crawley "until we see what happens in the court system."

The Palladium-Item reports Crawley and Chad King of Centerville were both charged Friday with one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct for an April 8 fight between the two men in Centerville.

Crawley told police King struck him at least three times, injuring his nose and leaving one of his teeth chipped. King told authorities Crawley struck him and spit on him during the incident.
