LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is considering making a possible senate run.

Grimes has recently met with Governor Beshear to talk about the possibility of running for Senate. Grimes says she and the governor had a "good discussion" about the thought of her challenging US Senator Mitch McConnell. She also says that she's giving "due diligence" to the race.

Governor Beshear says he's been having meetings with several different potential Democratic challengers to McConnell. He hasn't identified those possible contenders.

Governor Beshear ran against McConnell and lost in 1996. Some Democratic leaders have been urging him to consider a rematch

"I'm going to take time to reflect on how best I can continue to serve the Commonwealth, both with my family, as well as the supporters who put me here in the office of Secretary of State," explained Grimes.

Although Grimes has been talking with Governor Beshear about the possibility of running, she hasn't directly answered the question of whether she plans to run.
