Red Cross brings aid to flood-weary Ind. residents

Posted: Updated:

DRESSER, Ind. (AP) -- American Red Cross volunteers are using disaster relief vehicles to reach western Indiana families whose homes were hit by recent flooding along the Wabash River.

The Tribune-Star reports Red Cross volunteers Richard and Janet Atkins drove a disaster relief vehicle through Dresser to provide cleanup kits and bottled water to about 18 families affected by flooding.

John Brock says the flooding is the worst he's seen since he moved to Dresser in 2009.

Red Cross volunteers also visited areas in southern Vigo County and in Clinton and helped about 50 families.

The organization says the disaster relief vehicles are being used rather than a service center.
