LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The Garland of Roses that will adorn Saturday's Derby-winning horse was being crafted Friday.
Kroger's floral designers at the Middletown location are working nonstop to create this year's garland. It will be more than 10 feet long and two feet wide once it's completed.
A steady stream of people stood in line to view the roses Friday night.
It will contain more than 400 Freedom roses, each of which is hand-sewn into place.
Floral Design Manager Carol Belser says, "These roses, we've been babysitting them all week long, grading them each day. And, today we've brought the perfect roses to go onto the Garland of Roses." Rotating teams of four started working on the garland Friday at 4 o'clock and expected to be finished by 11 o'clock.
