PADUCAH, Ky. (AP) -- Layoff notices have been sent to about 260 workers at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant due to federal funding uncertainties.
The Paducah Sun reports LATA Kentucky, a subcontractor at the plant, sent out the notices on Friday to 80 percent of its workforce at the plant. The notices say the workers could be cut in the next 60 days.
Mark Duff, mediation contractor and project manager for LATA Kentucky, says if funding isn't approved, the cuts will go into effect on July 2.
The company is required to give advance notice if it plans a mass layoff.
