Derby winner Orb is headed for New York's Belmont Park

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Next stop is Belmont Park for Derby winner Orb: he is said to be ready for the second leg of the Triple Crown!

Orb left Churchill Downs Sunday morning for training at New York's Belmont Park.

Trainer Shug McGaughey is watching his horse closely before making a final determination on putting Orb in the Preakness in 12 days.

McGaughey has never won the Preakness in two previous attempts.

Easy Goer finished second in 1989 -- the same result the colt had in the Derby that year.

Orb's competition may not be as stiff at the Preakness as it was for the Derby. Derby runner-up Golden Soul will not run in the second leg of the Triple Crown -- and neither will Revolutionary or Normandy Invasion.

Mylute may go, after winding up 5th at the wire. D. Wayne Lukas said Oxbow and Will Take Charge are Preakness-bound.

Fifteenth place finisher, "Itsmyluckyday" is likely for Baltimore.

Goldencents will enter, after finishing 17th in the Derby.

Other Preakness horses that didn't run for the roses: Illinois Derby winner Departing, Bob Baffert's Govenor Charlie (who dropped out of the Derby last week), Fear the Kitten (the Derby alternate entry that couldn't get in), and a horse named Bellarmine is pointed toward the Preakness.
