LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Floyd County police are investigating the report of a man shot in the chest after entering a home on Wabash Avenue, north of New Albany, officials said.
911 dispatch received a call around 9 p.m. Monday from a woman who said she had just shot a man in her home. Sheriff Darrell Mills told WDRB that the victim was taken to Floyd Memorial Hospital for treatment of several gunshot wounds to his chest. The Floyd County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 49-year-old Charles Pierce of Louisville, and said he died of his gunshot wounds.
Mills also said that detectives had not yet talked with the woman who shot the man as of 10:30 p.m. They said she was visibly shaken from the incident and unable to give investigators any details. Officials said they were unsure if the shooter and the victim knew each other.
Residents near the home called Wabash Avenue a quiet neighborhood with little crime. They also said the residents of the home had not lived there for very long. One neighbor said she would often see children playing in the yard.
The home on Wabash Avenue is located north of Interstate 265 and west of Charlestown Road. It is in Floyd County, just outside the New Albany city limits.
