According to the 2011 University of Louisville's Urban Studies Institute study commissioned by the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, nearly 72 percent of visitors came to Louisville for leisure travel.
That is more than 5 million visiting friends and family.
Louisville's Hometown Tourist Celebration has been encouraging people to "be a tourist in their own hometown" .
From May 6th to May 31st, 55 area attractions, 15 hotels and 14 restaurants are offering deep discounts to folks who have a valid Kentucky or Indiana ID, local college ID or military ID.

Part race, part scavenger hunt and part historical, sight-seeing tour, The Hometown Quest is an activity filled event for both children and adults and it's FREE.
Pick up your game cards and complete the scavenger hunt Saturdays in May between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Game cards available at the Louisville Visitors Center (4th and Jefferson).
Answer challenge questions and solve puzzles at different locations within 60 minutes while taking a tour of downtown Louisville.
After completing the scheduled task or activity at each location on the spaces, Stamp Masters will verify the completion of the activities and place an official stamp on the game card. Once all spaces are filled, turn in your completed game card at the Louisville Visitors Center and get a free official Louisville t-shirt.
