LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Junior ROTC (JROTC) from Fern Creek High School returned home to a championship celebration Wednesday afternoon.

The Marine Corps JROTC drill teams won their 14th annual national championship in a row this week in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Family faculty and fellow students recognized both the men's and the women's teams today.

JROTC leaders say the practice hours are long, but the hard work pays off.

"They just love the hard work, they love the fellowship, they love being around other folks just like them," said Frank Herbert, JROTC Master Sergeant.

Courtney Brewer, the team captain of the JROTC women's team, said it wasn't easy.

"Now that I'm a senior, I realize how much work actually had to go into it," she said. "It was a hard struggle this year. There's all these teams up there. They want first place just as much as we do."

The men's team placed third overall in one of the arms divisions, and placed in the top five in every event.
