LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The Fraternal Order of Police held its annual memorial service in Jefferson Square Thursday to remember those who have died in the line of duty.

The names of 98 law enforcement officers are etched onto the monument there.  A wreath was placed in front of it, to honor them for giving the ultimate sacrifice.

Dave Mutchler, LMPD FOP President, said, "Today we not only pay tribute to the brave men and women who gave their lives protecting us, but we also pay tribute to their family members -- the survivors of these tragic and untimely deaths."

This comes just before National Peace Officer's Memorial Day on May 15th in Washington D.C. during Police Week.
