Fundraiser for young girl diagnosed with leukemia

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There is a lot of love for Lilly, a young girl who was diagnosed with leukemia on May 17th, 2012.

"It's been almost 1 year since and the world didn't stop, it really felt like it did that day," said Susanna Skaggs, Lilly's mom.

Her mom took the 3-year old to the doctor because she simply wasn't feeling well, or so they thought.

"Some of the symptoms I didn't even know were symptoms. She just had little red dots on her, lots of bruising, she was very pale,  and she had a fever of 104," said Skaggs.

That's when the battle began. Lilly is now in a maintenance phase. She gets chemotherapy about once a month. She is feeling better but still has a long way to go.

"It's a hard battle and there are so many people when we go to clinic we see, and we're gonna beat it we're gonna beat it," said Skaggs.

She says they can't do it alone. This Saturday, May 18th they're hosting a fundraiser "Love for Lilly". The 3 mile fun run and walk is at Waterfront Park downtown Louisville at 8am.

The money raised will help pay for Lilly's medical expenses.
