"24" to return to Fox schedule as miniseries next year

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- The Fox network is welcoming back Jack Bauer in a "24" miniseries that will air starting in May of 2014.

The adventure series starring Keifer Sutherland as Bauer ended its original run in 2010.

The head of Fox programming, Kevin Reilly, says the show's creators had been considering producing a feature film.  But when Fox said it was looking for a "big event" miniseries, they realized "24" was the perfect format.

USA Today is reporting that the miniseries may only be 12 hours, a departure from the real-time format of the TV show.  The newspaper quoted Reilly as saying the miniseries would "skip some hours."

The announcement came as Fox unveiled its fall season schedule.
