LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)--A Jefferson County public High school is getting help from a long-time rival.

It involves Fern Creek and Doss High Schools.  Everyone at Fern Creek is proud of their recent academic success and they even have a big banner that hangs outside the school as a reminder.  They want to help Doss earn one too.

Students from both schools worked together on a music video.  It has an important--perhaps even life-changing message.

"In it, you will see one of the student gets accepted to U of L.  And the student at first started off being really bored with school," says Jou Jou Papailler, Director of Film Department at Fern Creek High School.  "Their students are acting and doing the choreography and our students are filming."

A few years ago, Fern Creek was facing academic probation after an a state audit, but managed to turn things around.

Papailler says,"It would have been great if somebody had come along side us and help us when we were struggling."

Papailler says that's the motivation behind trying to help Doss turn things around.  "It's nice to be able to come along beside another school and tell them it's going to be okay.  And to have students telling other students, look believe in your school."

Dakota Gomez is a senior at Fern Creek.  He says, "I absolutely love the video.  I don't think we could have done any better on it and we all put everything we had into it."

From editing on their laptops to staying late, students from both schools embraced the project.

"Once we got there and we all got comfortable being in a different school that we didn't know anything about, you know, it was great because Doss was so welcoming," says Gomez.

"And it's something about seeing your peers doing something that gets kids excited," says Papailler.

There will be a launch party later this month to celebrate the collaboration and a new beginning for Doss.
