SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)--A Shelbyville man accused of holding a woman hostage and sexually and physically assaulting for several days appears in court.
Gary Harris is charged with sodomy, unlawful imprisonment, and more.
"Mr. Harris, you are also here for assault 4th degree, domestic violence, it's an 'A' misdemeanor and it is punishable up to 1 year in jail and a 500 dollar fine," said a Shelby County District Judge.
Tuesday afternoon, Harris made his first court appearance via video arraignment here at the Shelby County Judicial Center.
Harris was arrested last week after police say he held his girlfriend against her will for five days. It happened at his home on Bland Avenue according to a police report.
The report says the alleged victim claims Harris forced her to submit to sexual acts, struck her in the head with a hammer and made her sit in scalding hot water.
Meanwhile, the alleged victim eventually contacted a family member who then contacted police...and and were able to free her.
Right now Harris is being held on 30-thousand dollars cash bond at the Shelby County Detention Center.
In court, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
And we have confirmed that Harris has faced similar charges at least 2 other times in the past.
He's scheduled to be back in court next week.
