LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A mother charged in the death of her 8-month-old son changes her plea and is offered a lesser sentence.
Geneva Walters pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and wanton endangerment Wednesday morning.
Walters said she gave her 8-month-old son Michael Xavier Cowherd an adult dose of a common allergy medication in January 2010, then put the infant in a bathtub. She said left him there for a few minutes, and when she returned, he had drowned.
As part of her plea, prosecutors recommended a 5-year sentence. But she will be released on shock probation after serving 60 days, and can stay out of jail as long as she stays out of trouble.
