Keith Kaiser helps the Home Depot's Scott Krueger and Joe Autry give a deck a facelift.

The first step is to clean your deck of any dirt or debris. Just use a commercial deck cleaner and a scrubbing broom. Try to avoid using a pressure washer unless you are a professional. If the nozzle is too close to the wood, it can actually gouge the wood.

If you do end up using a pressure washer, use the correct nozzle and keep it four to six inches away from the surface of the wood.

Behr has a new type of deck paint that is slip resistant. Deck Over is designed to go over older wooden decks. It fills in holes up to a quarter of an inch deep. A typical deck will need two coats.
