LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- Former Miss America Heather French Henry says she is being encouraged to run against senior Kentucky U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell, but she tells WDRB News she has not made a decision yet.

Henry told the political site TheHill.com, "I certainly see myself, in the future, in some sort of political office."  She said people in "higher political positions" are urging her to run.

Just last month, Kentucky Third District Representative John Yarmuth told WDRB that Henry would make a good candidate. McConnell has held the seat since 1984 and carries a lot of weight in the Senate, but Yarmuth still believes he's vulnerable, saying last month, "I think after 30 years in that role, it's time for somebody who has a different kind of vision for both the Commonwealth and the country."

McConnell is already the longest-serving Senator in Kentucky history, and is seeking a sixth term. Henry, who is now a clothing designer, is only the latest Democrat to consider a run against McConnell.

Others include Democratic Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, former Democratic Party Chairman Bill Garmer, environmental attorney Tom FitzGerald, building contractor Ed Marksberry and musician Bennie J. Smith.

Actress Ashley Judd, who would have had to move from her current Tennessee residence, had considered such a run but decided against it.

Late Wednesday, Kelsey Cooper, Communications Director of the Republican Party of Kentucky, released a statement saying, "The fact that Democrats are openly encouraging Heather French Henry to run for US Senate is indicative of their desperate and failing recruitment efforts for the 2014 Senate race."
