LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A train hits a car in the Shively area, and the driver is lucky to be alive.
The accident occurred on Gagel Avenue near Mcdeane Road.
A witness, Mark Pecaro, told WDRB that the driver had a clear shot across the tracks despite the train signals, but failed to cross before the train hit his car and sent it into a nearby yard.
Pecaro said he rushed to help the driver, but was surprised when the driver appeared unharmed.
"I was thinking whoever is in this car is going to die," said Pecaro. "There's no way you get broadsided by a train and live through that. And then you see a fella on the ground, talking on his cell phone to somebody, giving them directions to where he was at."
Pecaro said the driver's identification described the driver as a senior at Butler High School and a UPS employee.
The driver was taken to University Hospital and treated for a shoulder injury.
