New Ind. law allows midwives to deliver babies at home

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Pregnant women in Indiana now have a safer and legal option for home births.

A new Indiana law will allow midwives to deliver babies at a woman's home, as long as they meet licensing requirements.

Before, certified midwives faced felony charges if they delivered a baby at a home.

The new law will take effect in July.

In the meantime, a committee of midwives will develop licensing rules and standards of care for home births.
