Flags for Vets pays tribute to fallen heroes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A visual memorial was put in place downtown to remember those who've paid the ultimate sacrifice

20,000 American flags were planted on the Great Lawn this past Saturday.

Flags for Vets coordinated the event with the hopes of raising money to buy flags, which are then sent to other states help remember the veterans buried across the country.

Flags for Vets organizers says this latest display of patriotism was their largest display to date.

"This event is really significant because it's really the only opportunity you have in a year to thank veterans who have paid the ultimate sacrifice laid down their lives for their country," said  Fred Moore the Director of Flags for Vets.

The flags have been put in place, but organizers say more volunteers are needed to make sure the flags stay in place.
